Terms of Use

1. What plate. is

plate. ("Plate", "we", "us") is a members-only application for logging, rating and discovering fine-dining restaurants in Dubai. These terms are the agreement between you and us for using it. Our privacy policy explains what we do with your data and is part of this agreement.

By creating an account you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not create an account.

2. Who may join

• —You must be 18 or over. Plate is about restaurants and includes bars and alcohol on menus; it is not for children.
• —You need an invitation from an existing member. Every account exists because a member brought it in, and we may close accounts that were created any other way.
• —One account per person. Do not share your password, and tell us at once if you think someone else has used your account.
• —We may refuse or close an account at our discretion, and will tell you why where we reasonably can.

3. Your content

What you log — visits, ratings, dish scores, notes, photos, wishlists — is yours. You keep whatever rights you have in it. So that Plate can work, you give us a licence to:

• —show it to other members, which is the point of the app: your log is visible to every signed-in member, as the privacy policy describes;
• —store, resize and copy it as needed to run the service (thumbnails, backups, moving hosts);
• —use it in aggregate, stripped of anything that identifies you, in the insights products described in section 5 of the privacy policy;
• —show your name with it to a restaurant only if you have turned on "Put my name to my ratings" in your profile, and only about that restaurant.

The licence ends for a piece of content when you delete it, except for copies already in backups (which expire on their own schedule) and reports already sent to a restaurant, which we cannot recall.

You confirm that you have the right to post what you post — in particular that photos are yours to share and do not show people who have not agreed to appear.

4. What you may not do

• —Post anything that is unlawful, defamatory, threatening, hateful or harassing, or that infringes someone else's rights.
• —Post a review of a restaurant you own, work for, or are being paid by, without saying so in the note.
• —Log visits that did not happen, or ratings you were paid for.
• —Use the app to scrape, collect or export other members' content, or to build a dataset of it.
• —Interfere with the service — probing, overloading, or working around its access controls.
• —Impersonate someone else, or use a username that misleads people about who you are.

We may remove content and close accounts that break these rules. If you see something that should not be on Plate, tell us at hello@plateguide.ae with a link to it.

5. Restaurants and menus

Menus on Plate are copied from each restaurant's own published menu and checked by hand, but restaurants change their menus and prices without telling us. Treat every price as a guide and check with the restaurant. Restaurant names and menus belong to the restaurants; they are shown here so members can log what they ate.

Ratings and notes are members' own opinions. We do not verify them, and a rating is not a statement of fact by us about any restaurant.

6. Our service

We aim to keep Plate running and your data safe, but we provide the service as it is, without warranties. We may change features, and we may stop the service; if we stop it, we will give you a way to export your log first.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, for content posted by members, or for decisions you take based on ratings or menus shown on Plate. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

7. Ending things

You can delete individual visits inside the app at any time. To delete your account, email us and we will remove it, everything it logged and every photo it uploaded within 30 days (see section 8 of the privacy policy).

8. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms materially we will tell you in the app or by email before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Plate after that is acceptance of the new terms.

9. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates as applied in the Emirate of Dubai. If something goes wrong, write to us first — most things can be sorted out by email.
